We provide a one stop shop for all your mining, geotechnical, geological and project management needs:

  • Mining Surveys and Site Investigation – Personal, professional and prompt. Desktop mining searches, visual property inspection mining related subsidence report, trenching and drilling site investigation and footings inspections. However your property or site is effected by historical mining we are here to help.
  • Geotechnical Drilling– Specialist diamond drilling services, producing high quality, high recovery rock cores. Angled holes can produce orientated cores for geotech mapping. Bore holes can be packer tested for hydrogeological data and down hole surveyed.
  • Ground Stabilisation – Pressure grouting, void grouting, soil nails, rock anchors, meshing, mini piling, retaining walls and underground support systems. Design, implementation and project management.
  • Monitoring and Mapping – Inclinometers, piezometers and water table monitoring. Rock slope and quarry geotech mapping and analysis. Cutting and embankment risk assessment surveys.
  • Pressure Grouting – Specialist bespoke engineering service injecting cement grouts to reduce porosity, permeability and transmissivity of rock and soil whilst improving their strength characteristics.
  • Void Fill Grouting and Foam Concrete – Specialist void filling designed for stabilisation and refilling of back filled historic structures such as harbour walls or underground historic min workings.
  • Site Investigation – Phased environmental site investigation for planning. Geotechnical site investigation for foundation and structure design. Footing inspections for new build mining sign off, percolation/soak away testing and mining investigations.
  • Instrumentation – Inclinometers, piezometers and extensometers.
  • Geotechnical engineering – Rock slope mapping, underground mapping, core logging, drill hole logging, risk assessments and stabilisation design.
  • Geology – Geological mapping and consultancy.
  • Project management. (SMSTS and CDM) – Qualified and experienced, land based and offshore construction project management. Managing sub contactors to ensure a high standard of health and safety, quality and compliance of work whilst maintaining budget and program, within the confines of the CDM regulations.

Luke Anstice Principle Engineer - Ticeans Engineering Ltd Cornwall

Luke Anstice – Principle Engineer

A 32 year old Cornish geologist with a masters in geotechnical engineering.

My interest in geology started early with a father who worked in mining, tunnelling and specialist drilling, with the chance at Truro School to do both GCSE and A level geology this interest grew an I decided to follow in his footsteps and make a career out of the ground beneath us.

Being of proud Cornish heritage the obvious choice after school was to attend one of the best mining colleges in the world ‘Camborne School of Mines’ right here in Cornwall, where a course in applied geology gained me BSc Hons (2004). From here I worked for Engineering Services Laboratory carrying out varied site investigations, slope and embankment monitoring and developed my understanding of rock and soils. A two year stint working on the ground for Saxton Drilling Ltd. gave me a true understanding of the practical implementation of ground stabilisation before moving to one of the worlds biggest mining companies Rio Tinto to carry out their geotech drilling regime at Simandou, West Africa.

Having discovered the geotech niche and a natural feel for the engineering properties of rock and soil and the way they can behave a masters in geotechnical engineering was the next step (2009). Employed again before my course was over but still managing to pass with distinction it was into an engineering role in large scale offshore construction with Fugro Seacore working for clients like BP, Woodside energy and the MoD giving me invaluable experience in quality, design, project management and health and safety.

In 2012 the decision was made to set up Ticeans Engineering Ltd offering a unique cross section of skills, with the very first project being an 18 month geotechnical drilling campaign for the worlds biggest gold producer Barrick Gold at their copper deposit in NW Zambia. Closer to home we have been involved in void filling in Portreath harbour wall, Jubilee pool and Mullion harbour. Pressure grouting under Wolf Minerals water storage dam at Hemerdon Mine. Ilfracombe harbour wall ground anchors, drainage hole and stabilisation and Pendennis Superyachts wet basin construction. Whilst specialising in mining related property searches, surveys, site investigations and remediation here in the South West.
