Mining Site Investigation
If your mine search identifies the need for a site investigation, we tailor any site investigation to the results of the mine search and your needs. Our standard turnaround is typically 48 hours from receipt of instruction.
The site investigation will be trenching for vacant sites accessible by digger. Trench location is designed according to mining risk, to avoid the location of overhead and underground services (such as gas, electricity and water) and to suit the proposed lay out of the new development. A digger, experienced operator and a geologist follow this trenching design allowing mining features and ground conditions to be identified and assessed. Depths vary by site and ground conditions and trenches are backfilled at the end of each day. Mining features will be recorded and reports include plans and trench logs to allow any remediation design.
Where areas have restricted access, to creating minimal disruption a drilling investigation is used. Drill holes are angled to provide information beneath a building and to assess surface and near surface ground conditions. Boreholes 10cm (4’’) in diameter are drilled into the ground, returning pulverised rock and dust fragments by compressed air flush. The drilling rate and flush are logged by the geologist to accurately assess the ground conditions and subsequent location of any mining features.
